Gathering [Souvenirs] 02. Even The Spirits Are... →
I can’t help it. Track 2. Again, the percussion effects. I love Annekes vocal precission… and accent.
The Gathering – Broken Glass →
Some sort of reverse effect used to set rhythm. Again, always intrigued me. Youtube the piano versions of this song, beautiful.
Gathering [Souvenirs] 01. These Good People →
Hooked on this song, awesome open for the album. Always loved the first 3 tracks. Simple effects on the percussion make it. And the first piano chord.
The Gathering – A life all mine →
OK, last one, last track. A refreshing track to wind up. So much going on, bells, pops, combination of vocals. Especially like the reprise at 3:10.
George Gershwin – Summertime →
This is the better version though. Very slow and drawn out. Feels exactly like me now. Too hot and exhausted to move.
Ella Fitzgerald – Summertime →
I really like what the brass does in this version. Not being a brass player I think its a trombone gliss, but whatever it is, I like it.
CHESS Anthem →
Playing a medley of Chess songs at the moment. This one has been stuck in my head all week.
Madness-House Of Fun →
Haha, top song. Reminded about this while watching The Young Ones.

The Gathering [The West Pole] 07. You Promised Me... →
Giving this album another listen. Struck again by this very eerie tune.
Orange Colored Sky – Dianne Strong →
I hear this several times at the jazz festival every year, the girls all love to sing it… and I don’t mind one bit.

The Scarlet Pimpernel TV Series Intro →
Always liked this. The TV Show as well as the theme. A very cheeky tune for a very cheeky character.

Venetian Snares – Frictional Nevada
→
This borders on barely tolerable, but tops out on different and interesting. Talk about ear fatigue.
Venetian Snares – Szamár Madár
→
This one contains melody and themes that I can comprehend, but mostly has a video clip that is well worth seeing. Also slightly amusing in a geeky way
The Smashing Pumpkins – Tonight, Tonight
→
This is my favourite SP song, probably for the grand elements and combinations of strings I enjoy in Silverchair, all be it much simpler.
Mellon collie and the infinite sadness
→
Another Smashing Pumpkins track that opens the double same album (preceding Tonight, Tonight). A simple but beautiful little tune, I enjoy very much.
Silverchair – Tuna In The Brine (Live Newcastle)
→
I love the complexity and richness of their newer work, this is probably my fav. I also love the structure of the songs, how they flow between parts.
Silverchair – Across The Night (Live Newcastle)
→
This is my favourite too, lol. (the album version anyway) Love the solo features in the orchestra (in all songs). They use most bizarre sets of chords
Silverchair – Emotion Sickness
→
A hugely successful Australian band. Wikipedia description: “Orchestral prog-infused chamber-pop” how awesome. The band as grunge, but they got better
The Whitlams – Kate Kelly
→
This snippet is from a 2002 song describing the fall of Ned Kelly, an infamous Australian outlaw and folk hero. Shows the darker moods on later albums
The Whitlams – Buy Now Pay Later (Charlie No. 2)
→
This is the Whitlams song that hooked me, and that I will remember forever. Inspired by, among other things, the death of the bands co-founder.
Thankyou- The Whitlams
→
The later albums included a more diverse mix of instruments, strings sax, horns and bells. Also a greater range of happy and dark songs.
The Whitlams – You Sound Like Louis Burdett
→
This, released 13 months earlier is a brilliantly perky, and extremely cheeky track. Humour brought by the piano/organ. Love that driving bass.
The Whitlams 'No Aphrodisiac'
→
When I think Australian music, this is probably my number one band. This was the bands breakthrough hit, voted #1 in the 1997 Triple J hottest 100.
Early Tommy Emmanuel – Initiation
→
Australian Guitarist with an impressive career. Very enjoyable albums to listen to, but this song is one of the more fascinating you will ever hear.
The Living End – West End Riot
→
If you’ve ever tried to learn a Living End song you will know how good these guys are-Technically and musically brilliant. Epic rockers from Melbourne
Still Real-George
→
Both albums are complex and beautiful, If you haven’t heard both albums in their entirety you must, I assure you you will never forget it.
George : 'Spawn' – music video
→
In 2002 and 2004 Katie and Tyrone Noonan produced two incredible albums, two hours of absolute bliss. Such a crime they are not more widely known.

09 Blind / Bachelor Girl
→
From “Waiting for the day”, a very fun album from 1998. 5 singles were released from this album, very sugary and poppy, but still a fun listen.
Eternal Flame – Human Nature ( HQ Official Music... →
Tediously repetitive, but a pleasant ballad. As any #8 song, played far too often in a short period of time.
Savage Garden – Two Beds And A Coffee Machine
→
I was looking for a lesser known song, but couldn’t get past the worldwide hit ‘To the Moon and Back’, until I remembered this - a moving melody.

Everybody remembers this song, though mostly comedically. Awful in many respects, but still a great song, fondly remembered.

Midnight Oil – Put Down That Weapon
→
The album contains political statements about the Australian Aborigines and the environment, but I was too young to understand. I just loved the music
Midnight Oil – The Dead Heart
→
Had forgotten how good the Diesel and Dust album was, there’s not a bad song on it, need to get a CD to replace my cassette next time I’m in the city.
The Seekers – I am Australian(1993)
→
Looking for a song to play I’m amazed at how many seekers songs were not their own-but delighted to find that this ubiquitous song was written by them
the seekers morningtown ride
→
Oh wow, I had forgotten this song. I remember singing this as a child. Beautiful melody. Even at a young age I think I loved that bass vocal harmony.
Hunters and Collectors holy grail
→
Iconic guitar riff, and good fun to play. Instantly recognisable piano intro.
The Seekers – A World Of Our Own(1968)
→
But this is what the seekers are remembered for, their folk songs. Think of them as Australias Peter Paul & Mary.
DAAS – For Holly - Throw Your Arms Around Me -... →
Another Hunters & Collectors, here performed by Australian comedian Paul McDermott.
